Rider
Name: Beth Evans
Horses Name: Honda
Big Name: Krystelle Park Mercury Rising
Age: 5
Breed: Anglo Arabian
Disciplines: Dressage and Showing
Goals:
To be competing novice dressage by the end of 2008 and then elementary
dressage by the end of 2009. To start doing some more jumping. To
try and get the guts up to do an ODE.
A bit about you and your horse:
I’ve owned Honda since he was 5 months old. He’s always
been a cheeky boy, into everything and has to know what you’re
up too. He’s a super quick learner, as soon as he learns something
he then spends the 5 rides coming up with all sorts of ways to get
out of doing it! We’ve gone through it all together and the
bond that we have is just amazing. When I had to move to far north
QLD for work, he came with me and spent 18 months chasing rock wallabies
away from his dinner. We’re a team!
Accomplishments:
There are so many that come to mind… the first time I rode him
was a pretty big one… first canter was also really amazing.
The first show jump course we did (30cm at the ARCA challenge in May
this year!!) was a super proud moment for me. Winning Champion Hack
over 16h at the same ARCA challenge was also a huge accomplishment,
there were about 20 horses entered in the over 16h classes that day.
Winning our prelim dressage class at the Summer Series (week 2 or
3 I think) was great as well.
Something quirky about your horse:
As much as he loves his carrots, his absolute favourite treats are
the Allens Red Frog lollies! He has all sorts of tricks up his sleeve
including bowing, cuddling and waving his front legs around in the
air.

Name: Wendy Rayner
Horses Name: Spag
Big Name: Mr Spagcam
Age: 9 Years
Breed: Thoroughbred
Disciplines: Dressage
Goals:
To have a very soft and supple horse. Also to have Spag go out to
different grounds and shows and keep ‘it’ together without
freaking out.. This is our biggest obstacle at the moment.
I would like to be out competing on a regular basis in unofficial
prelim and novice dressage by the end of 2008. In 2009 I hope to be
competing at Associate tests on a regular basis.
A bit about you and your horse:
I bought Spag in FNQ, off the track. What a feisty little devil. Not
a mean bone in his body, but of coarse one speed and very sensitive
to everything. I probably bit off more than I could chew, as I was
just getting back into riding after a very long 23 year break. I didn’t
know what a leg aid was.
“Don’t you just kick and pull back on the reins for stop
& go??????”
3 1/2 years on, we continue to have our weekly lessons. We have been
members of MARG for 3 years and in that time many members have watched,
for their entertainment, the antics of this once lunatic, hot and
very unbalanced horse . I am so proud of what we have achieved together
and the bond we now share is incredible.
Accomplishments:
Hot, sensitive, fast, unbalanced crazy race horse to rhythm, balanced,
rideable, talented dressage prospect in 3.5 years. The journey has
been fantastic.
Something quirky about your horse:
Spag hates having anything hanging on a rail in front of him. He has
a need to pull whatever it is down and stand on it. I just love the
way he looks at me with those big brown eyes when I tell him off.
So cute, but very cheeky.

Rider
Name: Kylie Martin
Horses Name: Sonata
Big Name: Maralinga Sonata
Age: 14 years
Breed: Anglo Arab
Disciplines: Endurance and Adult
Riding
Goals:
To successfully complete the Tom Quilty Endurance Ride and to learn
better riding skills to do the odd show.
A bit about you and your horse:
Sonata and I came together quite by accident around 7 years ago. She
was a very timid mare and it took us a long time to trust one another,
but once she was broken in and since we started our journey together
we have been inseparable. She still has a few life issues, but hey
what girl doesn’t? Accomplishments: Together we have successfully
completed nearly 3000kms, including 2 marathons. She is a gutsy little
mare and when she is being ridden she is all business. No time for
playing now, she reckons.
Something quirky about your horse:
Sonata loves her hard feed but not as much as oaten hay, its her favourite
food in the whole wide world and she will leave her good feed for
the hay. She hates being caught and will do every little sneaky thing
she can to get out of it. But yet she loves to be ridden. She absolutely
loves to roll, especially after being washed and of course she is
white/grey, YAY for me. NOT |

Rider
Name: Helen Elston
Horses Name: Kingy
Big Name: King Law
Age: 8
Breed: Thoroughbred
Disciplines: Dressage/hacking/showing in
hand
Goals: To take Kingy to the Royal Show/to do a decent hand–gallop
in show hunter, without being bucked off/ to be able to ride a whole
dressage test without forgetting any part of it/to invent a Navman
for dressage!!!
A bit about you and your horse:
Kingy is a Heytesbury boy and is out of their exquisite stallion,
Royal Abjar, who is now at stud in Turkey. His dam, Riverdell Miss,
was such a superb galloper that she has a race named after her. He
was never raced - probably just too laid back! I have had Kingy for
two years and he is the most important thing in my life - according
to my husband!!! I have been riding since I was ten years old, owning
my first pony when I was fourteen. When I was young and mad, I did
showjumping and eventing, until I had to have a spinal fusion which
gave me a big wake up call and I started to ride more like a lady!
Accomplishments:
At our very first hack show together, Kingy won champion horse on
show (unofficial of course)and I won champion rider - an awesome experience.
He’s a very showy boy and we are almost always placed in whatever
events we do.
Something quirky about your horse:
Kingy loves picking up things (especially buckets and blankets) in
his mouth, waving them around and then throwing them as hard as he
can - often scaring himself! He is very attached to Monty and yells
his head off if he can’t see him - I wonder if Kingy is gay???
He is also known as the “shitting machine”! He always
knows when he is going to a show and starts off from the moment he
gets onto our float until he enters the ring resulting in much tail
washing and backside wiping! Kingy loves any form of food, his favourite
being carrots, apples and pears, but most of all he loves licorice!

Rider
Name: Jessica Hoffrén
Horses Name: Cassie
Big Name: Stockholm Charisma (of course
a tribute to my home country Sweden)
Age: 5
Breed: Thoroughbred
Disciplines: Dressage, Showjumping, Eventing
(eventually)
Goals: To build on a good foundation and eventually go out and compete
novice dressage and showjumping. Might find the courage to do an ODE
as well! =O) Work on her ground manners that are a bit all over the
place at the moment.
A bit about you and your horse:
I got Cassie in January -08 as a gift from my partner. After a lifetime
of riding and training other people’s horses I’m now a
‘first time mum’ – with a hand full of a ‘youngster’.
Cassie is a sweet, sensitive mare with a very impatient personality!
Don’t like waiting at all! Being off the track she is a project
to re-educate and we both have a lot of work ahead. But it is well
worth when I see progress and see a happy pampered horse in her paddock.
Accomplishments:
Only just getting started but so far we have been on a few outings
to clinics and I was very proud of her work at the last SJ training
we went to. It is baby steps but we are heading in the right direction.
Something quirky about your horse:
Cassie is a smart girl who has crowned herself as the ‘break
out queen’. If it is not jumping over or skidding under it is
going straight through!

Rider
Name: Emma Maney
Horses Name: Jamie
Big Name: Movie Star
Age: 15
Breed: Thoroughbred ( red head )
Disciplines: Was a hack but now my dressage
pony
Goals: To compete elementary this year
A bit about you and your horse:
I have had Jamie for about 8 years but the first 5 years he was just
a hot headed TB who I took out hacking he regularly threw big tanties
out at shows so after a few years of disappointment was going to give
up riding him , anyways to cut a long story short I found the right
instructor who we really concentrated on my relationship with him
(or lack of) we started training dressage and started going out doing
assoc prelim and novice with great success , he is a totally different
horse whose whole attitude has changed – he is generally a happy
boy who does try his little heart out for me – still get the
odd tb tanty on occasions
Accomplishments:
High point horse and rider at Magenup 2007
Surviving ARCA with around 20 horses in our height - getting reserve
champion 15-15.2 , completing the handy pony course and the blue ribbon
for completing the 30cm jumping our first ever show jumping
Something quirky about your horse:
He is very antisocial a bit of a loner, loves lollies and he hates
DONKEYS! – |

Rider
Name: Cheryl Honeyman
Horses Name:
Chipper
Big Name: Marrivale Pendragon
Age: 10
Breed: Welsh Cob X TB
Disciplines: Mainly Dressage now
Goals: To improve my position & my riding
& to keep learning & enjoying myself
A bit about you and your horse:
I bought Chipper as a unbroken 2 year old. Luckily for me he has a
very sweet nature and has been very easy to handle. Unfortunately
he’s not the bravest horse in the world & silly things can
lead to mental melt-downs (always at the most inappropriate times)
Over the past 8 years we have formed a very strong bond & I couldn’t
imagine life without him.
Accomplishments:
My greatest accomplishment is buying an unbroken horse & educating
him. It is scary to know that everything you see & get is because
of me and my training. I am very proud that Chipper has turned out
to be a lovely horse. I have taken Chipper out & about since he
was very young. We have always worked on our flat work as I believe
you need good foundations regardless of the preferred discipline.
We have done a little SJ (only small stuff) & even got the courage
to do a couple of ODE’s (definitely the small stuff). At the
moment I am just working on Dressage & getting out to training
days & as many clinics as possible. When money permits I would
like to do some Associate Dressage days.
Something quirky about your horse:
The only weird thing I can think of, is that Chipper has a patch of
fur on his face which grows and falls out with his winter coat. I
have never seen another horse with this in my life. It is very bizarre!
(cute but bizarre). |

Rider
Name: Michelle Jennens
Horses Name: Bobby
Big
Name: McCallum
Age: 14 rising 15
Breed: Thoroughbred
Disciplines: Dressage, Showing, Natural
Horsemanship
Goals:
To continue learning more from my best friend as he is a wealth
of knowledge and has so much to offer. To further our dressage training
and compete novice/elementary dressage, my back permitting. To further
my natural horsemanship and continue to build a stronger relationship
with my beautiful boy. To compete a round of jumping and successfully
tackle a handy-pony course!
A
bit about you and your horse:
I have owned Bobby since March 2005 after having a 9 year break
from riding. He had previously competed elementary dressage in his
younger years then was semi-retired at the ripe old age of 8. With
much help from my ever suffering instructor Kiley Galbraith, we
convinced bobby of the merits of being back in work and introduced
him to all sorts of other exciting things that existed outside of
an arena. We have learnt so much together, he is an amazing horse,
a one in a million.
Accomplishments:
Biggest achievement Winning preliminary dressage test two years
in a row at the Summer Series 07/08. Our first Reserve Champion
at Gosnells 2006 and first Champion Hack at Wanneroo Hack Day 2007.
Working through level 1 Parelli in 2005 and getting the confidence
to ride bareback in just a halter and lead at the beach. Bobby’s
first ever trail-ride in 2006, and seeing how well he coped with
new challenges like creek crossings and kangaroos.
Something quirky about your horse:
Bobby is renowned for his love of food. From chillies to beer to
rockmelon he will try it all – he is definitely driven by
his belly! He is also very much a pony in a horse’s body,
he is very cheeky and loves to play, he is definitely NOT a forward
thinking fellow, and can grow a winter coat to rival a yeti.
